 Ms. Tammy's 5th and 6th Grade

             WHAT A WONDERFUL DAY!

On Friday, October 21st the fifth grade classes went to the Casey County AG/EXPO center to participate in the Kentucky Heritage Day. It was such a wonderful opportunity to see how people lived during the colonial days. We thank Mr. Grider for giving us the opportunity to go.

As you will see in the pictures, the students got to plow, play games, watch a blacksmith at work, see them grind sugar cane, sit in a tee-pee and eat roasted rabbit, etc....   Each teacher had around ten students. I would have loved to have gotten a picture of all the students plowing, but I was only with one group. I did get a few pictures of students at other stations doing various avtivities. 4-H

Ms. Christy Martin came to our 5th grade class to teach us about Supply and Demand.  We love 4-H and look forward to her coming again next month.

The 6th grade learned about how to have healthy teeth.

We enjoyed a wonderful breakfast of cinnamon rolls, chocolate and white gravy and biscuits for Victoria's birthday celebration. Another treat that day was some cookes fir Hunter's birthday. WE LOVE BIRTHDAYS!!!!!!!

Wow! We have a great school! Our students have to be the best in the WHOLE world!!! We have such beautiful place to learn. The teachers work very hard, the cooks prepare delicious food, the secretaries keep us organized, the custodians keep the school sparkling clean, the volunteers help us out, and our principal makes us all feel special! (I know that was a long sentence, but I just had to write it all).

We had a fun activity on the first day of school. Each student put a shoe in the pile at the front of the room. Each child grabbed a shoe. They then had to find the person that the shoe belonged to. They got to interview the student and then introduce them to the class. It was a lot if fun!  You can tell by the pictures above! Thanks Ms. Peggy for that idea!

Sometimes I have students that tell me they CAN'T  do something. I decided to get rid of  "CAN'T" this year.  Each student made a list of the things they think they "CAN'T do. We folded them up and buried them.  Each student got to dig the grave.  From now on we are going to rely on "I CAN" and "I WILL".  Here are a few pictures to  show you where we put our "I CAN'T" statements.

My 5th grade students are working on a review of general social studies and reviewing our geography skills. .

The 6th grade students are woking on on geography skills and reviewing the five themes of geography.

My homeroom has science this semester. We are studying PHYSICAL SCIENCE. We are learing about the properties of matter.

             PARTICLE DANCE PARTY!!!!!!!!!!!

This past week we were learning about solids, liquids and gases. We had a "PARTICLE DANCE PARTY" to show what we learned. Some students were solids, some were liquids and some were gases. We hope you enjoy looking at the pics and descriptions below.

First we learned that the molecules that make up a solid are close together and have confined movement.

We also learned that the molecules that make up a liquid are farther apart than solids and are able to vibrate and move more freely.

Lastly, we learned that the molecules that make up a gas are much farther apart than solids and liquids, and can move about independently.

The students has a lot of fun pretending to be solids, liquids, and gases. I had a pretty good time too!

The fifth grade students have loved the review computer game called "Mind Point Quiz Show". This program is a great formative assessment for all of the material we cover. At the end of each unit or chapter, we play this action packed game. It is played using the Promethian Board (thanks PTO). The children get to race to the board to answer questions that will be on the summative assessment. We just had to show Mr. Godby how to play!

The 6th grade students made their own maps. Some made maps of rooms in the school and the playground. Others made maps of their room at home. Each map had to have a title, map key and compass rose. The following two pictures show the students with their maps.

Roy looks great for picture day!

Thanks to Ms. Mary Beth for cleaning our filter on the projector! ps...She's a pretty great sister-in-law too!
